Community Involvement & Service-Learning Staff

Dr. Rosangela Boyd, Director

Dr. Boyd joined TCU in October of 2006.  Prior to joining TCU, she implemented various national and international service-learning projects as a faculty member in the College of Health Professions and the Director of Personnel Preparation at the Institute on Disabilities at Temple University (PA). She is a native of Brazil, where she majored in Special Education and English. Her Master’s Degree and Ph.D. are both from Clemson University (SC) in Counseling and Guidance/Higher Education and Therapeutic Recreation, respectively. Aside from community engagement, her areas of expertise include disabilities, aging, health promotion, international studies and multicultural education.
 
Mary Kathleen Baldwin, Assistant Director

Mary Kathleen graduated from TCU in 2003 with a B.A. in international communications and Spanish.  She earned her Master’s degree in College/University Counseling from the University of North Texas then began her Student Affairs career as an advisor and internship coordinator in the UNT Career Center.  She returned to TCU in 2007 to work for TCU Career Services and was excited to join the Center for Community Involvement & Service-Learning in 2008.  Originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, Mary Kathleen enjoys her role of advising students on volunteer opportunities, working with service-related student organizations and supporting service events such as TCU LEAPS.
Mary Kathleen is the academic service-learning liaison to the Neely School of Business, the School of Education, the Honors College and the departments of English, Modern Languages and Spanish.

Melissa Gruver, Community Engagement Coordinator

A native of Tennessee, Melissa graduated from Union University in 2005 with a B.A. in Philosophy and Christian Studies and received her M.S. in Education in Student Affairs Administration from Baylor University in 2008.  While at Baylor, Melissa worked in the Academy for Leader Development & Civic Engagement and the Waco Episcopal Student Center, before coming to TCU as Americorps VISTA and Community Involvement Coordinator in 2009. Now as Community Engagement Coordinator, she works with student service organizations, faculty & community partners, empowering students to create positive change in the Tarrant County community.
Melissa is the academic service-learning liaison to Nursing and Health Sciences, the Fine Arts, & the departments of Religion, Philosophy & History/Geography.

Bill West, Associate

Bill West  Upon retiring from Tarrant County Juvenile Services after 35 Years, Bill West joined the Criminal Justice/Sociology Department at TCU as adjunct faculty in 2007. Throughout his career, he has been involved with community and governmental agencies, ISDs and non-profits at the local, state and national level. He became connected to our center after receiving one of our service-learning faculty grants, and is currently volunteering his services on a part-time basis to assist with academic service-learning partnership development and follow up.
Bill is the academic service-learning liaison to the School of Communication, Science and Engineering, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Political Science, Anthropology & Economics.

Brian Banks, GO Center Coordinator

Brian Banks GO Center Coordinator

Brian graduated from TCU in May of 2011 with a degree in Secondary Education and a concentration in Social Studies. He is currently pursuing his master’s degree in History at the University of North Texas. As the coordinator for the GO Center, Brian works directly with the TCU mentors at Paschal High School and Trimble Tech High School to ensure that all students that come to the GO Center receive the assistance and support they seek in finding and applying to colleges across the nation.

The Center for Community Involvement & Service-Learning is a part of Cultural, Community, & International Services Unit within the division of Student Affairs.
